Prepare a sharing copy

CSV redactor

Make a smaller copy of a bank CSV before you ask someone for help: keep only the columns they need and replace exact names or references. Removing columns and replacing words does not make data anonymous.

Removing columns and replacing words does not make data anonymous.

Dates, amounts and remaining descriptions can still identify you. Review the entire copy before sharing.

Your file and the values you enter are processed in this browser tab. They are not uploaded or sent to analytics. We do not save them between visits. Downloads you choose to save remain on your device.

UTF-8 .csv or .txt, up to 5 MB. File contents never leave this tool.

Read the columns as text

Choose the layout, then read the CSV. Nothing is kept automatically. Dates, leading zeros and amounts stay as written; there are no totals or date conversions.

Limit: 5 MB, 10,000 data rows, 100 columns. No rows are silently skipped.

Input: Waiting for CSV text or a file.

CSV format: Not checked.

Redaction: No current copy. Select columns and build a preview.

Keep less, then check what remains

Start with the fields the other person actually needs. Choose your CSV's separator and whether it has a header row, then check the columns you want to keep. Everything starts unchecked. The download stays locked until you confirm those fields and review the output.

In the fictional example, the input has Date, Account, Description and Amount columns. Dropping Account removes the value 001234. Two rules in Description turn “Payment to Alex ref 7788” into “Payment to [PERSON] ref [REF]”. The date stays 2026-10-01 and the amount stays -20.00: one column removed, one retained cell changed, two replacements.

Rules match literal text, including spaces and case, inside the selected column. At each position the longest match wins, and replacement text is not searched again. For example, a rule for Alex Smith takes priority over Alex at the same position. Headers are cells too: a rule also applies to the retained heading in its column. No names or sensitive fields are detected automatically.

A name is only one way to recognize someone

Dates, amounts and remaining descriptions can still identify you. Review the entire copy before sharing. A distinctive purchase, a recurring payment or a reference you forgot to replace may be enough for someone who knows the context. Keeping the last four digits of an account is still keeping part of that account.

The counts tell you what these rules changed, not whether the copy is safe for a particular person to receive. This tool makes no anonymity, privacy-law compliance, fraud, authenticity or recipient-acceptance judgement. It does not check whether a bank, lender or accounting app will accept an edited copy, and it is not tax, legal, lending or accounting advice.

This is a CSV helper, not a PDF redactor. Removing a field here does not remove it from your original statement, screenshots, earlier downloads or other copies. Clear all releases this tool's active input and results; it is not secure deletion of device memory or history.

Two copies for different uses

The spreadsheet-protected option prefixes formula-like text with an apostrophe. You see the actual prefixed cells in the output preview, with a separate count of those changes. Choose the source number format so ordinary parsed negative numbers stay as written. This setting does not convert currencies or calculate amounts. If your columns mix number formats, inspect any prefixed numeric-looking cells rather than assuming they all use one convention.

The faithful option preserves retained cell text apart from your literal replacements. It does not neutralize formulas. Use it only when you understand how the receiving program handles CSV text, not as the safer spreadsheet choice. Quoting a CSV cell does not stop a spreadsheet from treating its contents as a formula. Spreadsheet software can also remove protective prefixes when saving or reopening files, so inspect the copy again before passing it on.

Both downloads keep leading zeros and long numbers in the CSV text. Excel can change those values when it opens the file. Import account and reference columns as Text rather than letting the spreadsheet guess their type. Microsoft explains how to keep leading zeros and large numbers.

The formula warning follows OWASP's CSV injection guidance. Both references were checked on October 17, 2026. These exports were not tested in a live Excel workbook.

Text stays text

The tool reads UTF-8 CSV or text files up to 5 MB, with 10,000 data rows and 100 columns. It accepts comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separators. Each find string and replacement is limited to 1,000 characters, with at most 40 rules. An output larger than 10 million characters is blocked, not cut short.

Dates are not interpreted, and account references keep their leading zeros. No amounts are added, no currencies are combined and no signs are flipped. Blank cells and repeated rows remain. Unequal row widths, malformed quoting and encoding replacement characters block the copy rather than silently dropping records. A blank row in a multi-column file needs fixing because it has a different number of cells.

A quoted comma or newline stays inside its cell. The new file uses comma separators, standard CSV quoting and CRLF record endings, so it is not a byte-for-byte copy of your input. Every retained cell is available in the preview, with at most 200 rows displayed at a time. Source line numbers help you review it locally and are not included in the download.

What happens to your file

Your file and the values you enter are processed in this browser tab. They are not uploaded or sent to analytics. We do not save them between visits. Downloads you choose to save remain on your device.

Use Clear all when you finish. Back navigation can restore uncleared input; leaving the page is not a promise that the browser has forgotten it. The original file is never overwritten. Downloads use a fixed filename, with no original filename, removed fields, replacement rules or hidden change report attached. Keep the downloaded copy under the same care as any other financial record.

If the rows are still in a PDF

Already have a bank CSV? This tool is free. Only have PDF statements? First check your bank's native export or any included extraction option. AnyStatement can convert PDFs into reviewable transaction data. That is a way to get rows for this helper, not a way to redact the original PDF. Compare the native export and extraction options before choosing a route.
