Check balances

Daily balance calculator

Work out your average and lowest end-of-day balance from a bank CSV. Quiet days count too, so you'll need the whole period and the balance just before it starts.

Start with one account

Use posted transactions for one account and currency, up to 10,000 source rows and 5 MB. A quiet day is only quiet if your records cover it. Blank CSV amounts are not zero.

UTF-8 .csv or .txt, up to 5 MB. File contents never leave this tool.

If the CSV contains account or currency columns, map them below and use their exact labels here. Different or blank labels block the calculation. Without those columns, you must confirm all rows belong to the account and currency you entered.

Map Date to the posted date, not the purchase date. Map Amount to a signed amount, not a running balance. If you only have separate debit and credit columns, use the debit/credit converter first.

Confirm source conventions

These choices describe your source, not the desired output. Ambiguous evidence requires your choice; the tool does not guess.

0 rows prove MDY; 0 prove DMY; 0 prove YMD; 0 are ambiguous. Detection: ambiguous.

0 rows prove a decimal point; 0 prove a decimal comma; 0 are ambiguous. Detection: ambiguous.

For a deposit account, money in increases the balance and money out decreases it. This is not a credit-card interest model. Opening balance and threshold use the final balance perspective and are never sign-reversed.

Two-digit years

Default 69 means 00-68 are 2000-2068 and 69-99 are 1969-1999. Use four-digit years when possible.

No row issues reported by these checks.

Set the whole period, including quiet days

Use the selected number format for both balances. The opening balance is before every transaction on the first day, not after its first transaction. Periods are capped at 3,660 days. Transactions outside your dates are listed as excluded, never folded into the opening balance.

Coverage is unknown. We won't invent balances for missing history. Complete the records or choose a period you can support with a known opening balance.

Average the days, not the transaction rows

A bank export might have five rows on Tuesday and none on Wednesday. Averaging its running-balance column gives Tuesday more weight, even though both dates count as one day. This calculator combines each day's posted changes, then carries that closing balance through days with no activity.

The fictional example covers October 1-5, 2026. Start with 100.00 immediately before October 1, add 50.00 on October 2 and subtract 30.00 on October 4. The five closing balances are 100.00, 150.00, 150.00, 120.00 and 120.00. Their sum is 640.00, so the average is 128.00. The minimum is 100.00 on October 1. A threshold of 125.00 gives three days below it: October 1, 4 and 5.

Use the date filter in the result to see every minimum date or every date strictly below your threshold. A balance equal to the threshold doesn't count as below it. Download the full daily schedule, the calculation with its assumptions, or the source review that lists included and excluded transactions. Each data download names the period, formats and row counts; the daily schedule also includes your opening balance and threshold.

A closing balance isn't an intraday low

Two transactions of +20.00 and -20.00 on the same date cancel in the end-of-day calculation. They don't tell you which happened first or how low the account went during the day. Nor does a posted balance tell you what was available to spend after holds or pending transactions.

Your bank may define average daily balance differently from this calculation. The result doesn't verify interest charges or determine fees, fee waivers, lender requirements or visa sufficiency. It makes no fraud or authenticity judgement and doesn't promise that another system will accept a download. It is not tax, legal, lending or accounting advice.

Even credit cards using the phrase “average daily balance” may have separate purchase and cash-advance balances, grace periods and daily compounding. Those rules appear in this issuer agreement hosted by the CFPB. This calculator does not implement them.

A missing day isn't automatically a quiet day

You choose both ends of the period; the first transaction date never substitutes for its start. Supply the known balance before that date and confirm the records include every posted transaction through the end. If coverage is incomplete or unknown, the tool stops rather than inventing a daily history. A period with genuinely no transactions works too, once you select that option explicitly.

Use one account and currency at a time. Account and currency columns, when mapped, must agree with your labels on every row. Otherwise, you are declaring that the file belongs to those labels. Signs and date order need your confirmation. Amounts, the opening balance and the threshold all use the number format and precision you choose. Excess decimal places are rejected, not rounded.

The limits are 5 MB, 10,000 source rows and 3,660 calendar days, with zero through six decimal places. Dates use calendar arithmetic without timezone conversion, including leap days. The displayed average rounds to the chosen precision, with halfway values rounded away from zero. Its exact numerator and day count remain visible. Other balance arithmetic stays exact.

Invalid dates or amounts, repeated headers, blank records and subtotal-like rows block the calculation. Time or weekday removal is shown for approval. Valid rows outside the chosen period are listed as excluded and never adjust the opening balance. File reading, format checks and daily arithmetic have separate statuses because none proves that your records are complete.

What happens to your file

Your file and the values you enter are processed in this browser tab. They are not uploaded or sent to analytics. We do not save them between visits. Downloads you choose to save remain on your device.

Clear all removes the active input and result. Back navigation can restore input you haven't cleared, so leaving the page is not a clearing action. Downloads are new files; the original stays untouched. The source review contains the original cells and may still be sensitive. Exported text that could start a spreadsheet formula gets a protective apostrophe, but parsed negative numbers are left numeric. Keep the protection when opening or resaving the file. Exported dates use YYYY-MM-DD and parsed numbers use a decimal point, regardless of the input format.

Check the records behind the average

For opening-plus-movements arithmetic, use the statement balance checker. For statement periods you can identify explicitly, use the coverage checker. Neither changes the fact that balanced arithmetic can still hide wrong records.

The daily method follows the quiet-day problem described on Super User and the sum-of-balances divided by days calculation in Excel University's example. We opened these sources and the issuer agreement on October 17, 2026. Their interest calculations are not part of this tool.

If the history is only in PDFs
